To build and expand a unique position today, you need your own signature – Because if you want to be different, you have to be credible and enrich and inspire people. With this in mind, retailers also increasingly have to become (umbrella) brands in order to provide orientation in the market environment. This requires authentic trading and communication concepts that combine individual services digitally and in brick and mortar stores. This turns any visit into an experience and the retailer into a personality with whom customers identify emotionally.

Manufactum

In times when consumers are returning to real values such as sustainability, authenticity and craftsmanship, the Manufactum department store cultivates these like no other brand. The retailer’s philosophy extends consistently to the food sector and is reflected, for example, in a selected range of delicatessen products and its popular Brot & Butter shops. Manufactum offers food in these shops from traditional production as well as an in-house bakery.
We have been working with Manufactum as architects since 2016. During this time, we have created numerous department stores with a new design – each of which is unique. Not only the assortment selection and the product, but also the retailers’ shops are selected carefully and with a view to making them special. It’s not always something typical to retail, but always has a distinctive character and historical charm. For example, the ninth location is housed in the listed building of Bremer Bank at Domshof, while the original room envelope has been largely preserved.
In 2018 the company opened its first international shop in Vienna, in the historically listed building of Österreichische Kontrollbank. For this extraordinary commercial property, Schwitzke developed the store design with regional references as well as a gastronomy concept for the bistro with sidewalk garden, where customers can enjoy authentic, regional and seasonal offers.
