For Trivago's new headquarters, completed in 2018, SchwitzkeID developed a wayfinding system that provides orientation within the complex building structure. Particular attention was paid to the intuitive routing from the lifts to the office and special areas, the labelling of the functional rooms, and the simple manoeuvring between the building sections. The design concept is based on the Trivago guiding principle: "Fluid and ever evolving, yet simple, authentic and never perfect.”
Task
A special focus in the trivago headquarters should be on the intuitive route from the elevators to the office and special areas, the marking of the functional rooms and the easy transition between parts of the building. The design concept is based on the Trivago motto “Fluid and ever evolving, yet simple, authentic and never perfect.” Consisting of two parts of the building with their curved white band facade, the Trivago company headquarters in the Düsseldorf Media Harbor is an eye-catcher. Six storeys high, on an organically curved base on a harbor basin. In addition to numerous conference and training rooms, there is a library, a cinema, fitness rooms and restaurants for the employees – including a “culture kitchen”. Our task was to develop a wayfinding system for this campus.
Solution
Wesentlich für die Gestaltung sollte das von Trivago neuentwickelte Konzept „Wabi – Fluid and ever evolving, yet simple, authentic and never perfect“, sein — eine moderne Weiterentwicklung der Markenwerte: Vertrauen, Authentizität und Diversität in Gestalt eines Ringbandes. Inspired by the new look of the brand, the form language of the directional arrows is essentially derived from the wabi ribbon. Dividing the buildings into sectors helped to organize long walkways into sections, which made it much easier to find a route from the lifts. The room markings blend in with their formal language and complete the system.
