Metropolitan Bosphorus - Luxury hotel designed in Istanbul

Düsseldorf, May 2025

As architects, we transformed what was once a functional office complex into a hotel. The location—with its unique waterfront views—demanded translating the coastal landscape into the structure itself: not just visible, but tangible.

The architectural concept of the Metropolitan Hotel Bosphorus follows the principle of the “Sophistication of Bosphorus” – a design approach in which form, function, and lighting are harmoniously combined. The building’s façade was fitted with sloped, delicately crafted sunshade louvers. They serve as an aesthetic design element, passively regulating the climate and providing privacy – while still allowing an unobstructed view of the water at all times.

This approach is consistently continued inside. The hallways are equipped with mirrored ceilings and linear wall lights that create geometric light patterns and create spatial depth.

The design of the guest rooms and suites also follows clear architectural principles: Natural materials such as real wood parquet and vertical wall paneling create a calm, warm contrast to the clean lines of the exterior. Open floor plans, translucent room dividers, and reflective elements create a sense of spaciousness without sacrificing intimacy. The bathrooms are designed with high-quality black marble with white veins—a tactile element characterized by elegance and depth.

The Metropolitan Hotel combines contemporary architecture, precise detailing and hospitality to create a place that sticks with you.
