Art in architecture: Bonn subway station Maximilian Center
Bonn, March 2023
When it comes to urban design, we have a broad base: in addition to shops, offices and restaurants, we can also do art in buildings. Bonn was faced with the task of not earmarking the subway entrances that lead to the beautiful city center, but rather designing them in an unusual way.
The wall cladding of the stairways to the subway at Bonn Central Station was extensively redesigned according to a design by the artist duo Heike Weber and Walter Eul. Bare gray concrete gives way to red-orange glass walls. The focus of the project for our team of architects was the linking of all artistic requirements with the technical conditions.
The result is a place that brings art closer to the people of Bonn in everyday life and makes it tangible.
