Vertical operation: new exhaust air ducts were brought into place via high scaffolding.

No wonder the phone lines never cooled down. The construction process had to be organized around tens of thousands of station visitors daily. The refurbishment works at Germany’s largest terminal railway station were in progress

around the clock, seven days a week: We built a new, glamorous shopping promenade on behalf of the mall operator, ECE. This demanding task would not have been possible without intensive preparation, as this large-scale project had to be coordinated continuously during ongoing operations. This meant not only involving all fit-out and technical trades, but also obtaining approvals from all responsible authorities to master challenges such as the placement of a 600-ton crane that was used to lift new technical elements onto the roof. It took
major feats of planning and new logistical achievements on a daily basis to intelligently guide the technical crews and the masses of visitors daily through each individual construction phase.
Over a wide expanse, that which had aged was comprehensively modernized: the building, ventilation, and cooling systems in the food services area; the floor screed in central locations; and all technical installations and connections. In addition, the mall’s social area was restructured and equipped with a new escape staircase. Last but not least, the new material and color concept was implemented to make sure the building looked its best. The production and installation of the individual seating furniture and the new, impressive portals at the entrances to the mall put the finishing touches on this special project. The result: an invitation to all visitors to feel comfortable and stay longer.
